Addiction Treatment Making BillionsBeing on the front lines of the addiction battlefield is sometimes discouraging to put it best. We at RIR get phone call after phone call asking for help. We hear the same thing over and over “we have called a bunch of toll free numbers, and always get the same response. Do you have insurance? Do you have cash to pay for treatment?”

Well folks this is because “Treatment” is a billion dollar a year industry. When you call that toll free number you are in some cases(NOT ALL) talking to a phone room of recovering addicts that are making 5% to 10% commission every time they bring someone into treatment. This is why treatment centers and their owners spend two hundred to a thousand dollars per click on pay-per-click advertising online along with the many TV ads now on the air.

This marketing brings in hundreds of calls every day to the centers. This all works out in the end for them because it produces “HEADS IN THE BEDS”. Believe it or not this is how they talk about the sick and suffering when they are selling treatment.

Ask the questions to the person you are dealing with do you work for the company? Do you get paid a salary or commission? Am I calling a treatment center? Can I speak to the clinical director? Can I speak to the medical director? Take the time and ask the questions people and know whom your dealing with.

These companies/owners could care less about the out come of treatment because relapse means even more money.  I’ve seen people seeking treatment be brought back into the same treatment centers three and four times with the price tag of a minimum $15,000.00 and as high as 100,000.00 per stay.

I know countless treatment professionals that work their butts off to help people. The problem is their hands are tied because of the greed and manipulation of the companies/owners they work for.  The treatment professionals are the front line workers that get paid the least and in most cases will be fired if they voice any concerns.

When is it going to end? Maybe when the treatment industry is regulated. Your best bet now to see whom your dealing with is The Joint Commission. If a center has their seal at least you know they have some integrity. Even then as long as they are in compliance they keep the seal. The Commission looks more at the quality of care then the immoral marketing acts that some centers use to bring people in to treatment.
